I guess this is an earlier Bevill novel, but is as fully intriguing as her more recent writings.As with the Bayou Moon, Crimson Bayou had me guessing until nearly the end.
Then it was a "simple" matter of "How does she get the heroine out of this mess?"
Crimson Bayou had me sneaking out of bed at 245a. so as not to wake my HIM (Bevill fans
will get this) to read..and read...and read. (No speed-reading or you WILL miss something)
I was ...does "panting" sound weird? .. by the end. Felt as if I'd been Mignon, herself.
And the last (full) page (don't you dare page ahead!!!) blew me out of the water.

Well written, I very much enjoyed this book.
I love this writer, have never been disappointed, this book was no exception.First started reading as free books, but had no problem paying for them when they started having a price.
The only novel by this author that I was very disappointed with. I found the rhymes quite awful and the story became a dialogue on swamp licking. The main characters were annoying and had no more depth. A poor sequel to the first.
Really enjoyed this book.
I am from Louisiana, and I enjoy a good mystery book set in that area. Its got just the right amount of creepy, Gothic tones to make this book really enjoyable for someone like me. I love the lead, Mignon, and the chemistry between her and the love interest. Great plot, great setting, and kept me guessing up until the very end. Totally recommend to those who enjoy Lisa Jackson, Beverly Barton and such.
C L Neville is one of my favorite authors. She has a great grasp of story lines and puts you right in there with the action.She has strong characters and you can look forward to hearing more from them in future books. I really enjoy that she gives us information about the Southerners in the area.The people are so different and still the same.They even find faults among themselves. An enjoyable read!
Read a lot of mysteries and enjoy ones set in Louisiana-- a somewhat "other" culture. Not knowing the author, I took a chance on this one. It was a good mystery with several potential suspects who were slowly eliminated while others moved to the head of the line as the characters developed. All in all a good read that kept my attention while I sat on a beach. The two primary characters-- the rural sheriff and the worldly but curious (meddlesome) artist (in the mold of Miss Marple/ Jessica Fletcher) were BF/GF which added to the story, although a few of the pages of their romantic interactions read like a teen romance novel. But that doesn't stop me from recommending Crimson Bayou as a good read.
