The old woman loves the woods, loves the childhood stories of the wolves chasing little girls in the woods. So today when she felt well, it’s time for a walk in the woods. As she slips away from her nasty servant, she goes for a walk in the woods. Only to find, some of those tales were real…

A Walk in the Woods is 1,823 words.

A Walk in the Woods A Horror Short Story eBook Rebecca M Senese

This story isn't really bad, but neither is it good. I give it three stars because I think it was written decently and I did like the old lady protagonist. I liked her joy at being able to slip out of the house away from her hired caretaker and just be free for a little while.

However, after that the ending is a little tense, but when the "twist" is revealed it left me disappointed that I was not shocked or scared. It felt to me like the author wasn't sure what to do so she tacked on a gruesome (tho not graphic) ending that just...ended. No reason was given at all for why the story ended the way it did.

Still, I pretty much enjoyed the few minutes of reading pleasure it gave me.

A Walk in the Woods A Horror Short Story eBook Rebecca M Senese Reviews

This seems to be a sample story from the author to create, in the reader, an interest in her other works. Unfortunately the story suffers from a number of faults including poor story structure, shallow characters, and elementary prose. Its just terrible and I have no further interest in this author.
3 stars because this work is free, short and delivers some scary fun. Some good imagery and descriptions of the forest. No more than 3 because its more entertaining than convincing and it is a bit hokey. But I liked it!
This was a very well written, captivating, fun short story. I really enjoyed the authors style of writing and the direction she took the story in. Very entertaining story that took just a little bit of time to read. Well worth reading.
Too short. I read it in minutes.I got this book free during a promotion. I know they are called short stories, and I read rather quickly , but this one just ends abruptly. It was an ok story but too short to be worth even 99 cents to me.
I enjoy a short story with a twist and this had one. I wished the beginning was faster paced and it did leave me wondering where this story was going. The ending made up for the slow start. I won't tell you the ending so you can enjoy it for yourself, but I will say you can punch holes in it, big ones. Overall, very enjoyable and I would recommend it to others.
This was a worthwhile horror read of only nine pages. The author did a great job of setting the mood and eloquently describing the forest using sound, sight, and other senses to really make us feel we were there! In my opinion, however, the ending could have been better. I would recommend this short work as a quick and engaging piece despite the somewhat disappointing ending.
From the first sentence on, this book was a disappointment. The sentences are clunky, the language almost too formal. The story itself is uninspired, a retelling of the same Red Riding Hood story we've heard retold a hundred times before. The "twist" isn't, nor does it even make sense. If Senese had labeled this an "interpretation" then maybe I'd be a bit more gratuitous, but as a horror tale, it's just not very original. Nor is it that horrifying.
